The jury found Burse guilty on two of the three counts of trafficking drugs in one case and they found him guilty of possession of a fentanyl-related substance in another case. But when it came to the case of the 2019 shooting at a house on Collett Street, where an occupied car was hit by gunfire, the jury could not reach an agreement that Burse was responsible for the crime.
Attorneys for both sides presented their closing arguments Friday morning. The jury will have to make decisions in three separate cases against Burse. A drug possession charge of a fentanyl-related substance, a trafficking heroin charge, which police did buy from him, and a 2019 shooting at a house on Collett street, where three women were in a car when it was hit by gunfire. Prosecutors claim the shooting was a retaliation for his mother's house getting shot at two days prior.
24-year-old Daquan Burse is on trial in three separate cases. One involves possession of a fentanyl-related substance that police found on him when he was found unresponsive on someone else's porch. Another was for trafficking heroin, that police made buys from him after he posted on social media that he was selling.
Opening statements began Tuesday in the three cases against Daquan Burse. He is charged with possession of a fentanyl-related substance. He is also facing charges in two other cases. One of those cases involves trafficking heroin and the other for a 2019 shooting at a house.
Daquan Burse will be assigned a new lawyer because his current lawyer is also representing Travis Cook, who is charged with firing a gun at a home on June 26th, 2019. Burse is the alleged victim in that case, but since the lawyer was assigned cook's case first, he needs to step down from Burse's case. Burse was arrested on June 28th, 2019 for allegedly firing a shot at a home and he is also facing two cases involving trafficking drugs.
