The Lima Senior High School culinary program is helping individuals with disabilities build confidence in the kitchen through a hands-on outreach class focused on teaching basic cooking skills.
DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) - The Delphos Kiwanis Club is once again bringing fun and community spirit to town with its annual 4th of July celebration.
“We have everybody that's somebody is here today,” said Charles Jackson, a ViaQuest administrator. “Many of them do not get this opportunity to dress up, to have a day that’s just for them. The glam, the glamour—it’s all about them. This is their special day. They’re kings, they’re queens, they’re celebrities. This is the one day we say we love you, we appreciate you, and we honor you.”
The club, which has 15 members, is part of the Lima Kiwanis Club's Service Leadership Program. Through a variety of activities, members showcase their abilities and experience a sense of accomplishment.
For 23 years, Gliding Stars has provided opportunities for more than 500 individuals with disabilities through its ice-skating program. This year’s stars are ready to take the ice for a special performance at The Cube in Findlay on March 30th.
Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent Renee Kohler spoke to Lima Rotarians about March being Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. She emphasized the importance of understanding the abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities and how care has progressed over the years.
The DECA students raised the money through the Joy Project basketball game, which featured face painting, sugar cookies, and various merchandise to ensure local athletes with disabilities can participate in the Special Olympics.
CRIDERSVILLE, OH (WLIO) - A local ranch threw a day full of fall fun to raise money to continue their animal therapies.
Fresh N Faded and Team Outreach Lima saw a great turnout at their latest event for people with disabilities. The free event had bingo, karaoke and dancing, and food and drinks for community members with disabilities. Thanks to sponsors, there were plenty of prizes to be given away too. The event is just one of many that Team Outreach Lima hosts for those of different abilities, like their Ohio State Michigan Tailgate in the fall. Over 80 people came out, and all had a fun time.
