Fourth graders across Lima City Schools got a taste of life on the farm.
Prior to the pandemic, the event was held as an annual tradition at South Science and Technology Magnet. The event is now being organized by Lima Senior's Agriculture and Outdoor Education program and is being moved to the Allen County Fairgrounds. Students rotated through various hands-on stations that included lessons on urban gardening, the evolution of agriculture equipment, crop production, wildlife, and natural resources.
It was a beautiful day to be out on the farm, or have the farm brought to you. That's just what happened at Lima City Schools South Science and Technology Magnet school. Cows, sheep, chickens, and rabbits seemed to be the popular stops as kindergartners and 4th graders throughout the school district got to be up close and personal with the animals. The youngsters also got lessons on farm equipment, healthy eating, and exercise along with the chance to make butter.
When you can't go to the farm, you bring the farm to you. That's what the South Science and Technology has done for the last seven years as part of their annual Farm Day.
They brought the farm to the school for one-thousand local students to experience what life is like on the farm.
Lima City School elementary students were down on the farm Tuesday, but never left the schoolyard.
