FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - A long-time public servant has retired from Findlay's city council.
Findlay City Council is working on passing over $30 million worth of capital projects for the city. Tuesday, they approved the first portion of their capital allocations, which included money for resurfacing streets, and matching funds for body cameras for the police department, and the purchase of new police vehicles. Findlay is also using some of their American Rescue Plan funds for a new generator at the water treatment plant and park improvements. Council will be looking at funding more projects in the upcoming meetings.
Earlier this month, Findlay City Council voted to submit their application to the state for a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA for short. Approximately 95 acres of the downtown area would be dedicated for this. Customers of participating businesses could carry open containers of alcohol within the assigned limits. Christina Muryn, the Mayor of Findlay says businesses are excited and supportive to bring more attention to downtown.
The City of Findlay is currently negotiating plans for a potential retail and residential project that one city council member said will truly benefit residents. On Tuesday, Findlay City Council tabled ordinance 2019-31 after its third reading. This is an ordinance requesting the mayor to sell the former Argyle Apartment parking lot to Blanchard Valley Port Authority and 500 Block West LLC.
