If you don’t have time for a flu shot, you don’t have time for the flu. That's according to Allen County Public Health. Flu season is here and they can’t stress enough the importance of getting a flu vaccination. Last year was an unusual year for the flu with two major out breaks of two separate strains. It resulted in 9,000 flu-associated hospitalizations and 4 flu-related pediatric deaths. Health officials say there is plenty of vaccines available and getting one will decrease your chances of getting ill and if you do it will reduce your symptoms.

It's that time of year again. The Allen County Public Health wants people to be aware of the flu. Cases have already been reported to the health department of people being hospitalized with the flu this season. The director of nursing says the important thing right now is to get your flu shot. About 200,000 are hospitalized with the flu each year and Allen County's vaccine supply is in good standing. It's encouraged that younger kids, seniors over 65 years old and health care providers get a flu shot.

Health officials say two different strains of the influenza virus have already been identified in Allen County. The two types reported can be prevented through the flu shot, so they encourage everyone to get the vaccination.
