Engineering Education and Manufacturing Center officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Ohio State Lima and the Lima Ford Engine Plant are teaming up to strengthen education for engineering students.
The Ohio State Lima campus is now offering its 4-year bachelor of science in engineering technology degree exclusively at the engineering and manufacturing center located at the Ford Lima Engine Plant's training center. OSU Lima's dean and director speaking at the Lima Rotary, giving an update on how the program is working to maintain local talent while meeting the needs of local manufacturers with real-world, hands-on experiences.
The Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Awards Program has been awarding scholarships to the children of union members since 1962. This year, Region 2B is giving 12, $10,000 scholarships to graduates in Ohio and Indiana. Locally, Caitlyn Maag of Pandora-Gilboa, whose father works for General Dynamics, and Emma DeLong from Lima Central Catholic, whose father works for Ford Engine Plant, were awarded scholarships. The program has given out nearly three million dollars in scholarships over the last 60 years.
Ford announced employees will now be tested for COVID-19 at the Lima Memorial Hospital. Employees can get a test if they are showing symptoms of the coronavirus. There are about 1,500 employees at the engine plant. If they have symptoms they can go to a designated site for swab testing. Ford also says they continue with daily health checks including temperature taking. Face masks are required inside the plant and for certain jobs safety glasses with face shields are required.
