A Mercer County girl scout was bestowed a rare honor Monday night following her heroic actions in the Summer of 2023. Troop 2037 Girl Scout, Abigail Kunkler of St. Henry, was awarded the Medal of Honor after she saved the life of a young boy. In August of 2023, Abigail was at a pond for a swim party when she noticed a little boy struggling to stay afloat and submerged under the water. Without a life jacket, Abigail leaped off the dock into the water and saved the boy from drowning. After receiving her medal, we talked with Abigail about what she remembers from that day and the overall meaning of this rare honor.

It has been around since the late 1940s, providing inspiration and education for girls of all ages, and another season is about to start. The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio is looking for any young ladies in kindergarten to fifth grade who are not currently involved in Girl Scouts to participate in their day camp at Camp Woodhaven off Robb Avenue. It will run Tuesday, June 4th, through Thursday, June 6th. This year's theme is "The Sky is the Limit," and they will be learning about space, the sky, and how it all relates to Planet Earth.

A Wapakoneta Girl Scout just made a tremendous purchase for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office that will benefit the entire county! Emma Hunley with Troop 2063 raised $50,000 and purchased a brand new pickup truck for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office DARE program. She pursued this project to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award which is the highest award in Girl Scouts and equivalent to the Eagle Scout. When Emma heard the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office budget would be reduced due to decreases of tax revenue from the pandemic, she knew she had to help, and with her dream becoming a reality, Emma hopes she inspires other girls that they can do anything.

One area Girl Scouts troop is celebrating the first day of Girl Scout Week with some fun-filled activities. This year the girl scouts kicked off the weekly celebration at St. Paul United Church of Christ.

They started off the meeting with reciting the pledge and then they did the promise and girl chant. They also sang and played a series of different games. The Girl Scouts Week is always celebrated the week of March 12th.

Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs - everybody has their favorite from the familiar varieties of Girl Scout cookies. But this year, there's a new cookie that is joining the ranks. They're called Lemon-Ups, and as the name suggests, it's a lemon cookie with a glazed bottom. Baked into the top of the cookie are different inspirational messages to encourage girls as they sell their cookies and in a way, reflects what the cookie program is all about.
