“The GOOD Program, more than anything, is about perseverance. But in order to have perseverance to be successful, we have to evaluate and make every situation the best we can to provide ourselves with the highest quality of life,” Derry said.
Making the best out of a bad situation is just one of the lessons Cridersville Elementary School students were learning on Tuesday. The "GOOD" program has become a staple for fourth graders at the school as former teacher Ron Derry educates them about the struggles he faced after becoming blind. Derry taught in the Columbus area and decided to continue working with kids by starting his own motivational program, "Go On—Or Defeated," known as "GOOD," and has encouraged thousands of students across Ohio to make good life decisions.
Since losing his eyesight more than two decades ago, an Ohio man has put his efforts into motivating students to reach their full potential by being kind and working together. Ron Derry is a Lions Club member from southern Ohio that has created the GOOD program teaching children essential character-building lessons. On Friday, he was visiting Cridersville Elementary 4th grade students. His program includes lessons on perseverance, trustworthiness, working together, and bullying.
He has been motivating students to do well and persevere for more than two decades around the State of Ohio.
