The Putnam County Health Department today announced it has successfully completed a review process to maintain national accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
As of Monday, Health Commissioner Brandon Fischer said there are no additional confirmed measles cases, with the county’s total remaining at one. Fischer is also stressing the importance of the MMR vaccine to reduce the risk of infection.

Health Commissioner Kathy Luhn says that 6 more deaths related to the virus were reported in the last week. Reported cases per 100,000 people are up to 784. Back in June, it was at 21 cases and the drastic increase shows the Delta variant is hitting the area hard. The county vaccination rate remains low at just under 37%. Luhn encourages individuals who are vaccinated to talk with family and friends who aren’t vaccinated.
A musical duo from Findlay that spent their lockdown holding Facebook Concerts to raise money for local food pantries is now helping the Hancock County Health Department encourage people to get vaccinated. They created a catchy jingle telling people, "don't hesitate, vaccinate."
Auglaize county has gone up two levels on Ohio’s advisory system in just one week. They now sit at level red with over 80 cases per capita reported. Some of the indicators for the red level include an increase in ER visits for COVID patients, a sustained increase in new cases, and the cases per capita nearly doubling. Oliver Fisher, the health commissioner in Auglaize County says jumping up two levels came as a shock.
This is part of an initiative made by Governor Mike DeWine to provide easier and more access to COVID-19 testing. The role of the National Guard has been vital, as they have been the ones to perform the tests.
