The Putnam County YMCA held an open house to thank those who made the replacement of their natatorium's HVAC system possible. With funding secured by Ohio Legislators Senator Rob McColley and Representative Jim Hoops, as well as donations from Mercy Health, Unverferth Manufacturing, and the Village of Ottawa, they were able to complete the $300,000 project.
The University of Northwestern Ohio has kicked off a $3.1 million project that will reduce their carbon footprint as well as save funds in the long term. The project will include new LED lighting, HVAC replacements, HVAC motor upgrades, and new water upgrades.
The career center held their 4-1-1 Blast Friday, for the students from their 11 member school districts. The students got to visit 2 of the 22 programs that Apollo currently has to offer. They were also able to do some hands-on activities, plus talk to students and instructors about the programs, including a new program that will be starting next year for the high school students.
High school students from across the state traveled to the United Association in Lima on Friday for a technical skills competition. Skills USA is a student organization that provides training in the trades, and a chance to use their talents in competitions. The Ohio division partnered with the local US and UNOH to host the HVAC contest. It consists of a written exam, soldering and welding, and troubleshooting furnace and AC units. Representatives say it is important to provide these events to young students
The Elida School Board is making sure teachers and first responders can be fully prepared if an emergency of any kind were to occur inside or around the schools.
