The World Health Organization reports that five patients have recovered from a rare type of Ebola virus in eastern Congo. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the recoveries during a visit to Bunia, the provincial capital of Ituri. The Bundibugyo virus, the current species of Ebola, has no approved treatment or vaccine. Despite improved health facilities, the virus is spreading faster than the response. Doctors Without Borders is calling for expanded testing and faster aid deployment. Local anger over burial protocols has led to attacks on health centers. WHO is emphasizing community involvement in the outbreak response.

When the novel coronavirus hit it was like time started to stand still with quarantines and all attention was focused on it. Local health officials are encouraging people not to forget about other deadly diseases that we have been able to control through immunizations. Allen County Public Health had to shut its doors for several weeks which stopped the ability for many parents to get their children vaccinated. Immunizations are down 47 % this year compared to the same time last year at the health department. They are now taking appointments to get the shots your child needs, especially if they are heading back into the classroom this fall.

Allen County Public Health is encouraging parents to get all the mandated vaccinations to protect your child from vaccine-preventable diseases. The health department is still holding clinics for parents to take care of those needed immunizations.
