Thanksgiving is less than a week away, but the Lima Sparty Friends are celebrating a little early! On Friday afternoon, the "Littles" from Unity, Freedom, Heritage, and Independence Elementary Schools visited their "Bigs" at West Middle School for their Thanksgiving celebration.

The kids at Independence Elementary School got a front-row seat watching extreme science demonstrations! Imagination Station out of Toledo put on the safety glasses and performed not one but ten different extreme science demonstrations. The kids watched everything from balloons contracting in bitterly cold liquid nitrogen to water defying gravity, exploding bottle caps under intense pressure, and even the fan favorite "elephant's toothpaste."

The symphony brass quintet visited the school to teach kids all about the trumpet, French horn, tuba, and trombone. They also learned why larger instruments make lower notes and the different mutes a trumpet player can use to alter their sound. The program featured both classic works and some songs from modern movies that the students already knew.

After being apart for almost seven weeks, the students of Independence Elementary were finally able to see their teachers on Friday afternoon. Both students and teachers alike created signs to show how much they miss and appreciate each other. One teacher said everyone has been doing a good job connecting with their students online, but they wanted a chance to see their smiling faces in person.
