The Ohio Department of Transportation is prepping for another busy season in ensuring roadway conditions are safe when snow and ice come to the area. Throughout the state of Ohio, inspectors have been checking equipment this week in order to ensure that everything is up to date to battle the upcoming winter season.

The Lima Fire Department is now offering car seat inspections by appointment. Firefighter and Paramedic Emily Bowsher recently completed training to properly install car seats in vehicles. She will also instruct parents on all the safety features of the seat and make sure it is the perfect fit for your child.

It has been all hands-on deck to navigate and deal with all the added work that is necessary for the situation at hand. But they still have all the duties that they are responsible for with or without a pandemic such as nursing, clinics, and environmental services. The pandemic has caused some changes in hours in some services so it’s best to call first or check on their Facebook page for any changes.

The committee met and discussed the current laws they have and how to better laws for the safety of the community. One big concern brought up at the meeting was that they don’t have a plan in place to tell who is coming into the city and if they are operating safely within the city limits. A food truck operator brought up issues that he has seen on the streets that while there are inspections for food safety, there are no inspections for fire safety, and the possibility of explosions happening due to propane leaks. Councilors are looking to implement an ordinance that will create a checklist of inspections that are needed to operate a food truck in Lima.
