“For the eighth through 11th graders, it's an opportunity for you to get some exposure,” said Londell Smith of the Smith Jones Family Foundation. “You can see what it might be like. You can see if you can see yourself in that environment. Get some information in terms of what you have to do to prepare to be able to maximize that environment. That way when you come back home, you know what to do in school.”
Friday the Mercy Health Saint Rita’s environmental services team were recognized for all their hard work with a chicken dinner. Better known to many as housekeeping, the EVS team has been that silent partner that keeps the entire facility clean and sterilized. After the last two years, the pandemic has become more intense to stay on top of the situation. The Smith Jones Family Foundation took time to thank these hard-working individuals for a job well done and they were appreciative.
They wanted to help students in their next step with their education and decided what better way than providing textbooks.
The people of Lima face issues every day. And they are some of the same issues seen across the state of Ohio. Leadership Ohio brought their program to Lima to gather community leaders for interactive discussions to specific problems.
"The leaders in this class, right now, they are looking to see what they can do," Lisa Duty said, executive director of Leadership Ohio. "What their impact might be post-graduation from the program these are people that are some of Ohio’s best talent. They’re intellectuals, they’re entrepreneurs, they’re influencers, they’re do-ers, they’re dreamers."
