LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Smith Jones Family Foundation is continuing its efforts to connect middle and high school students with potential colleges for their post-secondary education.

The foundation is hosting an educational field trip on Nov. 22 to Cleveland, where students will attend the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair. The event will provide students the opportunity to meet representatives from more than 60 HBCUs, with on-the-spot acceptances and scholarship offers available. The initiative is designed to inspire students to take pride in who they are, where they come from, and where they want to go.

Smith Jones Foundation to host field trip to HBCU College Fair for students

“For the eighth through 11th graders, it's an opportunity for you to get some exposure,” said Londell Smith of the Smith Jones Family Foundation. “You can see what it might be like. You can see if you can see yourself in that environment. Get some information in terms of what you have to do to prepare to be able to maximize that environment. That way when you come back home, you know what to do in school.”

Smith said several seats remain for the field trip. Interested students can attend a registration meeting on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bradfield Community Center. There is a $50 fee to cover costs. For more information, call Smith at (419) 236-8947.
