Despite the cold, these Lima residents marched in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The over-decade-long tradition held by Lima 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn brings everyone together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. They gathered in prayer, sang songs, and shared something they are thankful for that came from his teachings. Despite the below-freezing temperatures, they walked from Reese and Holmes Avenues to the park named specifically for him.

January 15, 2025, Press Release from the Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center: The Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center will be hosting an observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 3:00 pm on January 20, 2025, with a Unity Walk and Celebration program at the Church of the Living God Ministry located at 701 N. Main Street in Findlay. Dr. King’s legacy was to bring forward the idea of a "Beloved Community", where everyone is important and valued, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, and other barriers society creates. Our goal continues to be one of creating a better community in his honor.

The local chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is gearing up to celebrate its 30th Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Breakfast. The annual event celebrates the life and legacy of Doctor King by bringing people of all ages together to be inspired to make their community better. This year, Mayor Sharetta Smith will be talking about the occasion, and the featured speaker is Lima native Angela Davis. The money raised from the breakfast helps fund scholarships for students. Last year the sorority handed out 14 thousand dollars in scholarships to help kids start college on a positive note.

Connecting lives through unity is the theme of this year’s Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Breakfast in downtown Lima. This marks the 25th year for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Lima Chapter hosting the breakfast. The event draws hundreds to commemorate Doctor King and his message of peace. Speaking this year is Doctor Tyrone Blesoe C.E.O. and President of the Student African American Brotherhood Organization. Organizers say they have reached the milestone of 25 years thanks to the response of those attending.
