One of the tastiest traditions at the Mercer County Fair is back! The Blue Ribbon Bites Competition took place on Thursday, August 7 at 11:00 AM in the Beer Garden, as food vendors from across the fairgrounds compete for top honors in flavor, creativity, and crowd appeal.

There are few experiences like showing an animal at the county fair, and the Mercer County Board of Developmental Disabilities is making sure nobody misses out. Bethany Ulrick has that story. "Share the Ring" returned to the Mercer County Fair for its second year, with about double the number of participants as the first. Participation is free, and guest showmen get to learn all about their animal, lead it around the arena, and tell the crowd a little about themselves. Each is paired with a 4-H student who volunteered to help them.

Harness racing is a fair favorite in Mercer County. Although it hasn’t always been a sport, it’s one that attracts a lot of people because of how close they can get to the action. “Harness racing originally was developed as folks racing to church, if you will, and [evolved] into an actual sport,” said Paul Sunderhaus, a member of the Speed Committee. “For here in Mercer County, a lot of us are generations of horsemen. It’s something that’s conducted on a half-mile race track so it’s easy to watch up close."
