On Sunday, August 23rd three individuals broke into the fairgrounds between midnight and 5 a.m. They then proceeded to take six golf carts from under the grandstands and used them to drive to Westview Park. The golf carts sustained significant damage. One cart was driven into Westview Pond, while another two carts had bent frames. Tire rods were also ripped off two carts.

An Indiana man is in custody in Mercer County, accused in connection to an early morning theft of a horse trailer, three horses, and horse racing related items from the Mercer County Fairgrounds. John R. Eicher of Berne was arrested and charged with theft. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. The theft was discovered after a horse trailer was found turned on i's side in the middle of Wabash Road, near Skeels Road. Two horses were inside, and died as a result of injuries they sustained. It was then discovered a third horse was missing from the fairgrounds.
