Students at Lima's Heritage Elementary are honoring veterans today. It was a morning of music and thanks to family, friends, and especially the veterans in their lives for the children. Those in attendance learn about the "Hall of Valor" at the Allen County Museum from Lima veteran Lawrence Huffman. Lima natives Leonard F. Mason and William Metzger both served in World War II and received the Medal of Honor. Their names, along with those of the nearly 4,000 other soldiers who received the medal, are on that wall in the museum. Those veterans in attendance today shared what Veterans Day means to them.
The Marine Corps League Detachment 1063 hosted an annual gathering of veterans to celebrate the 249th birthday.
The Lincolnview Lancer community gathered to honor those brave men and women who have served our country. Friday afternoon inside Lincolnview High School was their annual Veterans Day program where students and staff had their veteran family members recognized. There were a total of 67 veterans in attendance, with Lincolnview band and choir students performing patriotic songs and tributes. The keynote speakers were from the honor flight northeast Indiana, where they discussed how much honor flights mean to our veterans. A goal of the Veterans Day program is to teach students to always show respect for our country's most courageous men and women.
