In light of recent events in New Hampshire, local law enforcement is asking drivers to be more vigilant this summer. The 23-year-old driver of a pickup truck was arraigned on Monday, after plowing into a group of motorcyclists killing seven and injuring three last Friday. Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking drivers to check often in summer months for motorcycles. Officials say to check especially while changing lanes, crossing intersections and while passing. Last year in Ohio, over 3,300 motorcycle-related crashes occurred including 142 motorcycle related fatal crashes.

As we move into the warmer months, local law enforcement is asking homeowners to do their part to keep their streets safe for all types of vehicles. As a part of motorcycle awareness month, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking homeowners to be mindful of their grass clippings when mowing their lawn. It is not illegal for grass debris to be blown onto the roads, but it can pose a real danger for bikers that other motorists do not typically have to worry about.

As the warm weather rolls in, motorcycle drivers around the are rolling out on their bikes. Just five months into 2019, Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 has already had four motorcycle fatalities, the same number recorded for the entirety of 2018. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says wearing proper protective gear can go along way for bikers in case they do become involved in a traffic accident.
