Memorial Day weekend marks the start of the “100 Deadliest Days,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when traffic fatalities typically increase. The Lima Post says extra troopers will be on the road throughout the weekend watching for distracted and impaired drivers. Authorities are reminding drivers to keep their eyes on the road, buckle up and make a plan for a sober ride home.
“We’re expecting an influx of traffic this weekend, so we just want people to be careful and look out for other drivers as well. It’s getting warmer out, so you’re going to start seeing motorcycles on top of the busier traffic. So, I’d say this: Don’t drive distracted. If you are gonna go out and you’re gonna drink with your friends, just have a designated driver. Always wear a seatbelt,” said Lt. Nick Boes with the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers are also asking the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling #677.
