Lima City Council is working to address residents’ complaints about squatters and people living in RVs and campers within city limits, pushing for stronger enforcement of existing ordinances.
The department increased its income guidelines in 2023, allowing more residents to access services, but also leading to a significant increase in applicants.
A Joint Safety Services and Neighborhood Concerns Committee meeting was held on Monday evening. Howard Elstro, Lima’s Public Works Director gave a presentation on the need for curbing and sidewalk replacement throughout the city. He estimated that around 60% of the blocks in the city would need curbs replaced and gave multiple options and estimates based on how extensive of a repair is done. The responsibility of replacing curbs and sidewalks is on the homeowner, but one councilman hopes that they can offset some of the costs.
Three local bars are in jeopardy of losing their liquor licenses after a motion made Monday by the Neighborhood Concerns Committee. Monday night, the Neighborhood Concerns Committee made a motion to object the renewal of liquor licenses at Northside Firehouse and Level's Lounge. They also made a recommendation to council to object a liquor license renewal at Ketzys.
The Neighborhood Concerns Committee continues to gather information on whether or not the City of Lima could get some form of Landlord Registration in the future.
