The Lima Police Department is reminding residents that Ohio law allows consumer-grade fireworks to be discharged only on certain dates and times surrounding the Fourth of July and only on private property. Officers are urging everyone to follow safety regulations, respect their neighbors and attend one of the area's professional fireworks displays if possible.
Lima officials announced that violent crime is down 29% and property crime is down 26% over the past year, crediting strategic policing and strong community partnerships for the improvements. Police also showcased a new drone response program that will provide officers with live video before they arrive at emergency scenes.
Speed traffic can be extremely dangerous, especially around schools, and in the area Landeck, close to Delphos, residents wanted to see a change.
Lima City Council’s Safety Services Committee took a closer look at liquor license procedures within the city during a recent meeting.
Based on that feedback, the city developed a range of traffic-calming strategies aimed at improving safety and quality of life for residents. Proposed measures include high-visibility enforcement, raised crosswalks and other tools designed to slow traffic and discourage unnecessary through traffic.
After two community workshops and an initial survey, the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program is nearing the end of its information-gathering phase.
