Recently, the Armstrong Air & Space Museum announced a unique partnership between the museum, Neil Armstrong Airport, and Tri-Star Career Compact.
An 8-year-old boy from Bluffton had the opportunity of a lifetime after winning the Armstrong Air and Space Museum’s “First Flight” contest. Hudson Warwick and his family traveled to Neil Armstrong Airport in New Knoxville, where he flew inside a 1928 Ford Tri-Motor airplane. It’s the same type of aircraft as Neil Armstrong first flew in as a young boy back in July 1936.
Families, couples, and solo pilots from all over the country gathered at Auglaize County's Neil Armstrong Airport to watch today's eclipse. After landing, there was also a shuttle available to take them to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta. The crowd gathered on the tarmac was a good mix of first-time eclipse viewers, eclipse chasers, and astronomers.
An open house and ribbon cutting marked a new stage of the evolution of the Neil Armstrong Airport. The terminal building is 4400 square feet, and replaces a previous 1500 square feet building.
On June 12th, the airport will be inviting people in to check out their new terminal building, which was completed last fall. Bi-plane rides and food trucks are just some of the features of the grand opening event, along with running the Fly Me to the Moon 5K on the runway.
The annual State of Auglaize County address was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. None the less there’s plenty the area is preparing for.
The county is wrapping up the long awaited renovation to the Neil Armstrong Airport. The last of the furniture is going into the terminal this week. An open house is expected in the spring.
"It’s a project we’ve been working on for a long time," said John Bergman, Auglaize County Commissioner. "And it’s come to fruition. It’s a nice addition to the county. It’s the gateway to the word from Auglaize County. And a gateway from the world back into Auglaize County."
Officials in Auglaize County are looking to make big improvements to the Neil Armstrong Airport.
The Auglaize County Commissioners have some projects on their agenda for 2016.
