September 10, 2024, Press Release from Bluffton University: BLUFFTON, Ohio – “Bonhoeffer: Cell 92,” a cinematic theatre production created by Jerry Holsopple and Justin Poole from Eastern Mennonite University, comes to Bluffton University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27, in Yoder Recital Hall. A cinematic theater production based on the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer- German pastor and leader in opposition to Hitler and the Nazi regime. Using a variety of primary sources, including letters, dairies, and eyewitness historical accounts, this play examines the tensions between Bonhoeffer’s pacifistic ideals and his moral obligation to protect the oppressed by engaging in conspiratorial activities. This one man-show incorporates cinematic screens that project flashbacks and imagery.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating a man that was found dead in a rest area in Van Wert County. According to troopers, 40-year-old Donald Richardson jr. of Lima was found dead in the eastbound rest area on U.S. 30. They discovered his body in a car when that they were doing a check at the rest area. No other details have been released about case that is still under investigation.
For the second time in two days, the Lima Police are investigating a shots fired into a home call. Officers responded to the 2100 block of Lakewood Avenue around 9:25 p.m. Thursday for reports of shots being fired. They found a home was struck and they believe the suspect took off towards Spencerville Road.

A two-alarm fire in American Township Friday night destroyed a family home. The American Township Fire Department was called out the 700 block of Seriff Road just before 10:30 pm Friday. The home was fully engulfed when they got on scene, they called Shawnee Township fire for mutual aid. The residents were not in the home at the time of the fire, but in another building on the property. The Red Cross has been called in to assist the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The home is considered a total loss.
Police Chief Jim Gulker says that residents on the Kalida water system are advised to boil water for drinking or cooking before consumption. He says it is unknown when the boil water advisory will be lifted. Using water for laundry and bathing is permitted at this time.
For the last 38 years, thousands of neighborhoods across the United States have been celebrating National Night Out. The annual event promotes the partnership between police and fire departments and the people that they serve to make their neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
