CANTON, Ohio (WLIO) — St. Henry is bringing home its first state championship since 2006 after powering past their opponent, 37–3, in a dominant DIV. VII State Final performance led by senior quarterback Charlie Werling.

The Redskins struck first in the first quarter behind a 26-yard run by Will Speck, and after a successful two-point conversion, St. Henry led 8-0.

Then in the second quarter, Werling gave his team a 16-3 lead with a 70-yard rushing touchdown  the longest scoring run in a DIV. VII state title game in OHSAA history.

And later on, Werling kept it himself once again, breaking free for a 23-yard touchdown run that pushed the margin to 20 points.

St. Henry wasn’t done before the break. On their final possession of the half, Werling fired over the middle to Speck, and the sophomore did the rest — weaving through defenders for a 16-yard score that sent the Redskins into halftime with a commanding 30–3 advantage.

With a running clock controlling most of the second half, St. Henry leaned on its defense and ground game to close it out. The Redskins drained the clock on their final drive before taking a knee to officially seal the program’s latest state championship.

Werling was named the game’s MVP after an outstanding performance: 19 carries for 213 yards and three rushing touchdowns, plus one passing touchdown to cap off his four-score night.

St. Henry capped off their 2025 season with a 14-1 record, their seventh state championship in program history and the Midwest Athletic Conference's (MAC) 45th football state crown.
