October 7, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— In anticipation of Florida-bound Hurricane Milton, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has activated a team of more than three dozen members of the Ohio National Guard to support the state of Florida in the storm's aftermath. “As Florida recovers from one hurricane and braces for another, Ohio is answering the call to help Governor DeSantis and the entire state," said Governor DeWine. "Forty members of the 200th REDHORSE Squadron are proactively heading to Florida in advance of what is expected to be another catastrophic storm."

September 30, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has activated the Ohio National Guard to support the state of North Carolina in its recovery from flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Helene. One CH47 helicopter and six Soldiers from Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment are en route to North Carolina to provide air movement of supplies, equipment, and personnel.

The city of St. Mary's is continuing its search for a buyer for the Ohio National Guard Armory. The city purchased the property a couple of weeks ago, they are looking now to people are interested in buying the property and using it to continue the overall growth of the city.

The Ohio National Guard left Saint Marys in 2020 to join forces with Lima. But it was hard to forget all the guardsmen and women that have been a part of the community since 1877. That is why John Burd came up with the idea to build a memorial to their local Ohio National guard across the street from the armory where they served. He is thrilled about how it turned out.

On Veterans Day at 11 a.m., on the corner of Chestnut and Spring Streets, there will be a ceremony to dedicate the new monument. The Ohio National Guard left Saint Marys in 2020, and a resident came up with the idea to create a monument for the citizen soldiers who were there. City administrators liked the idea and they decided to build it in Memorial Park facing the old armory used by the guardsmen.
