“This project is a testimony to the spirit of collaboration that this community is known for. We have this beautiful facility for generations to enjoy. We built it $11.6 million debt free. Have already met over 90% of our endowment goal and really just excited to welcome the public into this facility. August, 30,” said Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith.
“This will be the website where you can find the latest information,” said Amy Harpster, Lima Public Works Director. “The public will be able to purchase daily passes and memberships online. In the meantime, visitors are encouraged to sign up to get updates and subscribe.”
"Well, it's important that we have a certificate of occupancy before we let folks go in there," Harpster said. "That means we can have people in there. We want to make sure the lifeguards are in place. We want to make sure we have our permission from the Ohio Health Department as far as the pool and the chemicals and everything that goes with that. So we want to make sure it's ready. That way we're not opening then closing. We want to be open."
The park’s construction was funded through federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, but its long-term management and maintenance will be supported by the endowment fund. A $5 million goal was set for the fund, and it is currently about 82% of the way there.
Sports Facilities Management LLC will handle daily operations, maintenance, and staffing for the aquatic park as part of a contract with Mayor Sharetta Smith that Lima City Council unanimously authorized Monday night.
