LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — There is still no official opening date for the Lima Community Aquatic Center, but residents will soon get a chance to see the new facility.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 27, followed by public tours of the center. City officials say the pool will open for summer use sometime after that, but a specific date has not yet been determined.
According to Lima Public Works Director Amy Harpster, the delay is due to pending permits and documentation.
"Well, it's important that we have a certificate of occupancy before we let folks go in there," Harpster said. "That means we can have people in there. We want to make sure the lifeguards are in place. We want to make sure we have our permission from the Ohio Health Department as far as the pool and the chemicals and everything that goes with that. So we want to make sure it's ready. That way we're not opening then closing. We want to be open."
The enclosed pool features retractable doors and a roof, allowing for year-round use.
