Perry High School students "elevating" their education as they prepare for the workforce. Rhodes State College visited with Perry students this week to conduct remote pilot training for 11th and 12th grade students. Once the training is concluded, the students will take a test to receive their remote pilot certification.

Many families affected by the recent hurricanes in the south are still struggling and in need of assistance, so students at Perry High School are stepping up to do their part in relief efforts. Students launched the "Be the Change" fundraiser earlier this month to help raise money for the families impacted by the hurricanes. Calling on their fellow students and staff to find any loose change they may have lying around the house or their cars to be donated to the fundraiser. The students realize they will probably never meet these families, but know it's the right thing to do to help them with whatever change they have.

Freshman Emma Lehman has shown goats at the fair for many years, which her family also raises. She spoke with other farmers in the area and brought them together for today's first Ag Day at Perry Local Schools. Kindergarten through 12th-grade classes made their way outside to interact with the animals and to get a chance to see how big farm equipment can be.

New changes are coming this year for the Perry Local School District. The school board held a special meeting to approve the resignation of board member Tammy McDonnell. McDonnell officially resigned as of January 16, 2020. The reason for her resignation is unknown as the board president declined to comment. In addition to the approval of the resignation, they approved the hiring of the new treasurer, Mandy France. France has several years of experience in finance.
