According to school staff, the students will finish their training by taking the certification test in Columbus next year in April.

Rhodes State College visited with Perry students this week to conduct remote pilot training for 11th and 12th grade students. Once the training is concluded, the students will take a test to receive their remote pilot certification.

The training included classroom setting lessons with knowledge about weather and flight conditions as well as drone maneuvering and hands-on learning. With technology progressing and innovative new career fields becoming available, Perry looks to rise to the top to prepare its students.

"At Perry we're always looking for ways to connect our content to the workforce and just help students apply what they're learning. Rhodes State has always been a leader and continues to be a leader in offering credentialed opportunities for the job market in our area, so we're very thankful for this partnership. And I think our students have been surprised at the complexity of obtaining this certification and the skills required, but it's really helped them to think outside the box relative to the skills that are needed and what they need to develop," stated Tyler Turner, principal of Perry High School.

"We learned the speed that we're allowed to go with the drones. A lot of things about weather and maps. I help a lot with farming and taking photos. I think it's very interesting, and you can really take this to any career field and learn many new things," said Leah Miller, a junior at Perry High School.
