LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Officials at Lima Memorial Health System raising a very special flag on Friday.

As part of Donate Life Month, they held a ceremony to hoist the flag, reminding everyone of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. The hope is the banner waving in the wind will encourage everyone to register to become donors.

Thousands of Ohioans are on the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant. One person has the potential to save eight lives through organ donation and heal more than 75 people by donating tissue.

As part of Donate Life Month, they held a ceremony to hoist the flag, reminding everyone of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. 

"The flag recognizes the people who have done the selfless act of donating their organs, tissues and eyes, and then recognizing and celebrating the life of people who received a second chance through organ donation," said Katie Richard, trauma program manager for Lima Memorial.
