LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen County Commissioners are continuing their review of a petition to annex approximately nine acres of land into the City Delphos, carefully evaluating whether the request meets the requirements outlined in the Ohio Revised Code.

Commissioners have been meeting with legal counsel to examine the petition and determine if it satisfies the six criteria required under state law. The public comment period has closed, and officials are now considering testimony gathered during a public hearing held March 23 as part of their decision-making process.

Allen County Commissioners review Delphos annexation petition

Commissioner Cory Noonan emphasized that the board’s role is limited to reviewing the annexation based on the current condition and use of the property.

“What we are doing is looking at the evidence before us on the current state of those properties and whether or not the city of Delphos can accept those properties in its current state,” Noonan said. “If there is a request at a later date for the property to be change of use, that is a decision and a discussion that will be made outside the parameters of the annexation process.”

Noonan added that any future change-of-use request would involve separate discussions between property owners and local jurisdictions. If annexed, those discussions would take place with the city of Delphos; if not, they would remain under the authority of Marion Township.

Commissioners have until April 23 to render a final decision on the annexation request.
