LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee delivered a commanding performance on both sides of the ball, defeating Ottawa-Glandorf 12-1 in five innings.
Entering the game at 8-1, Shawnee set the tone early behind a dominant outing from pitcher Riley Rhodes. The junior retired the side in order in the first inning, striking out all three batters. She finished with 12 strikeouts in the game.
Ottawa-Glandorf (1-3) threatened in the bottom of the first with a runner in scoring position, but Addie Kitchens ended the inning with a clutch strikeout to keep the game scoreless.
Shawnee broke through in the second inning. Addison Melson lifted a pop-up that led to a miscommunication in the infield, allowing Mikayla Browning to score the game’s first run.
The Indians added to their lead in the third inning. With the score at 2-0, Lyla Rosas crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, Rhodes helped her own cause with a fly ball to center field that brought home Anna Menke, extending the lead to four.
Shawnee continued to build momentum as Browning delivered a hit into right-center field, driving in Rhodes and pushing the advantage further.
The Indians’ offense kept rolling, ultimately securing a 12-1 victory via the run rule in five innings.
With the win, Shawnee continues its strong start to the season, improving to 9-1, while Ottawa-Glandorf falls to 1-4.
