LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds rode a dominant pitching performance to a 5-0 win over the Botkins Trojans at Players Field.
LCC wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. A wild pitch allowed J.J. Schneiders to score, and moments later, Andrew Baldauf reached on a ground ball to third that brought home Brady Malcolm, giving the Thunderbirds a 3-0 lead after one.
The offense continued in the second inning when Nathan Speicher slapped a ball to the right side, scoring Griffin Dawson and extending the lead to four.
Defensively, LCC flashed the leather as well. In the third inning, Josh Young made a diving catch in center field to keep Botkins off the board and preserve the shutout.
On the mound, Botkins’ Ethan Barhorst came in relief, finishing with four innings pitched, allowing no earned runs while striking out three.
But the story of the game belonged to LCC sophomore Brady Jacobs. The right-hander was lights out, tossing a complete game one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead the Thunderbirds to victory.
LCC improves to 3-2 on the season, while Botkins falls to 4-4.
