LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Campers at the Boys and Girls Club rounded out a summer of fun and learning Friday afternoon.
Over the past nine weeks, about 80 students from kindergarten through 12th grade spent their days on field trips, classroom lessons and, of course, having fun. Camp leaders say some of the highlights included discussions on digital literacy, etiquette, personal hygiene and emotional regulation. Staff say the goal at the start of the summer wasn't just to keep students busy, but to help them build life skills, including how to manage their emotions and regulate their behavior.
"We do have kids that are actually now taking the moment to breathe or walk away from situations or seek out their YDPs (Youth Development Professionals) or the adult in the building, leadership, for them to get redirected with what they need to get done. And that's a hard task for just us as adults alone. So, for them to accomplish that, I'm just super proud of them," said Gina Daughtry, unit director for Boys and Girls Club.
