Lightbulb Lab Inspires Lima area youth through hands-on tech activities

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The monthly Lightbulb Lab is continuing to spark curiosity among young students by introducing them to potential career paths through hands-on learning experiences.

April’s session focused on technology and robotics, giving children and their parents the opportunity to build catapults, explore electrical circuits and use coding commands to operate a small vehicle.

Organizers say the goal of the Lightbulb Lab is to expose kids to a variety of career fields available in their own community, helping them see future opportunities early on.

“I think when they come here, most of the presentations we have are fun for them,” said Jim Bifulco, a consultant with the Allen County Educational Service Center. “It’s important for them to realize that technology can be fun, and as they get older, they see they can earn a living at it and build a career. There are many local companies looking for people with this background, and while many will train employees, colleges are also here to help along the way.”

The next Lightbulb Lab is scheduled for May 9 and will feature creative, hands-on activities centered around art.
