Back in November, 23 shih tzus were rescued from an abusive environment, and since then all have made full recoveries, and all but one six-year-old male have found forever homes.

However, The Ohio SPCSA & Humane Society says they have seen an increased number of animals rescued from unsuitable homes in this past month. With many of them sick or injured, the shelter is seeking monetary donations to help cover their medical costs to get them healthy enough to be adopted.

The West Ohio Food Bank makes sure that people have a good meal to enjoy over Christmas.  Employees, volunteers, and Santa and Mrs. Claus were all on hand to hand out meals to whoever wanted them.  Besides ready to heat and eat ham dinners, the food bank also gave out free pet food for people who asked for it.   This all started last year because they saw need locally that they were able to fill.

One local animal rescue organization is making sure that some people don’t have to make the choice between feeding themselves or their furry loved ones.  All Starr pet Rescue teamed up with the West Ohio Food Bank to give away cat and dog food to whoever needed it.   The organization has been helping rescue animals for nearly four years now but decided about a year and half ago to do pet food distributions whenever they can get enough donations.   Normally they have between 100 and 150 families that stop by around every three months to pick up a large bag of food for their pets.

Recently, the food bank received a large amount of pet food, and now they are donating it around their 11 county service area. On Wednesday, they stopped by the Hancock County Humane Society to drop off two semi loads of dog and cat food. Concerns of pets going hungry during this difficult time is something that the food bank has been hearing from people, and they set up a way to help with that.
