Buying your own home is the American dream, and the City of Lima is working to make that dream come true for residents. The city is hosting a couple of upcoming workshops. One with NACA, the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, and another with the city regarding their first home loan down payment assistance program. City officials say it's important that people understand what assistance is available to them.
Dozens of property owners are coming out to dispute their new tentative valuation amount with the Allen County Auditor's Office. Informal hearings with the auditor's office started today and continue on Wednesday. Every three years, the state requires that property values be re-evaluated. The amount is determined by what properties around you are going for on the open market. You do have the chance to dispute your new valuation, and you need to bring documentation to back up your case.

Lima City Council gives Mayor Sharetta Smith the green light to launch the Lima Rapid Rental Repair Program on Tuesday, June 18th. The program aims to assist landlords with turnover and renovation costs for their rental properties to prepare for the next tenant to rent. The program is funded through "Better Together Funds" with $200,000 being allocated, and landlords can apply for a maximum grant award of up to $5,000 per unit, a way, Mayor Smith says, to help landlords with the rental registration program passed earlier this year and improve housing in Lima.

After more than 7 years of planning, the City of Lima is launching a new process to take stock of rental properties within the city. The city council passed the legislation back in January, and the rental housing unit registration process is up and running. Any property owner who has rental units is required to register those units with the city. Whether it is one or 50 units, they must be registered. City officials say that 56% of the housing in the city is rental property. The new registration will provide information about the properties that will help keep track of the condition and ownership of the units.
