The State of Ohio is making some changes to the Homestead Exemption Tax that will benefit many Ohioans. The Allen County auditor released that new income thresholds have been established for seniors 65 years of age or older, disabled veterans, and spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty. The amounts adjust with inflation annually, and properties have a new market value because of the new triennial.

After a community forum held on October 29th, the Elida School Board of Education voted on whether they will move forward with a renewal tax levy. On Tuesday evening, the Elida School Board unanimously voted to move forward with the renewal levy for $2.7 million. Tuesday night's decision comes after the unofficial 5-year forecast presented at the community forum showing expenses outpacing revenues by an increasingly growing margin. Following Tuesday night's board meeting, we spoke with Elida Local Schools Superintendent, Joel Mengerink, about the next steps and the impact of Tuesday night's decision.
On Tuesday night, Lima City Council began their 3-day budget hearings for fiscal year 2025. The budget currently highlights $25.8 million for safety services, which represents 51% of total expenses for 2025. $2.9 million are planning to go toward housing development and rehabilitation with economic development costing around $2.7 million dollars. The city plans to spend $500,000 dollars for traffic safety improvements and around $360,000 for youth development. After Tuesday night's first hearing, we learned more about the city's current revenue status for 2024 and goals for 2025.

President of the UAW 1765 retirees, Gary Frueh, says the Lima plant was highly regarded in the Dana Corporation, and it was the star plant in the division during the 80s and 90s.
