The project was made possible in part through Ohio’s Brownfield Remediation Program, which provides grants to support the removal of structures containing hazardous substances. The Macy’s building met the criteria for the program, and Allen County received $1.3 million in state funding for the demolition. The project is being led by the Allen County Land Bank.

The Allen County Land Bank says that the 2023 budget could allow them to move forward with their home improvement project, where residents can contact the land bank and request help in repairing parts of their homes. The land bank also says that this year could see positives when it comes to funding other projects in the local area.

The Allen County Land Bank met with the Allen County Commissioners to talk about their proposal.  They are requesting a half a million dollars the American Rescue Plan Act fund for the program. The federal government identified residential areas in parts of Lima where the Coronavirus had a more financial impact and said the ARPA funds could qualify to help with roof repairs, plumbing work, and new windows.

Former Allen County Sheriff Dan Beck is running as an independent and is claiming that he is being denied the ability to get certain financial information regarding the county to prepare for an upcoming debate. On September 22nd Beck contacted County Auditor Rachael Gilroy about scheduling a 45-minute meeting only to hear back on September 25th that she is not available until October 14th or after. Beck finds that odd as the Lima Allen County Neighborhood in Partnership’s debate is on October 13th.

Allen County is being recognized by State Auditor Keith Faber for a job well done. Allen County Auditor Rachel Gilroy accepting the “Clean Audit Award” from Faber’s office. Only 8% of the 5,900 audits qualify for this award. There are many things that have to be checked off to receive a clean audit to assure taxpayers money is being used properly.

The Allen County Land Bank board of directors met today to discuss a variety of ongoing tasks. During their regular meeting, the Land Bank board discussed where they stand right now. Currently the Land Bank has 231 properties in its possession. Of those, they are awaiting reimbursement on 33 of those properties to finish cleaning up and either donate or sell off. To date 70 properties have been re-purposed or donated by the Land Bank.
