Many shoppers return each year to find specialty items and support the cause.
“I’m always here, first of all for the variety of cookies. They are absolutely delicious,” said attendee Judy Bourk. “I used to be a volunteer here and work, but now I just come and buy the goodies.”

“They have nice stuff, reasonably priced, and it supports a good cause,” said Bill King, who stopped by the fair.

“Well, we know some people that do the arts and crafts here, and I think it’s a worthy cause for what their project is for the year,” said Helen Kunkleman. “So it’s worth it. It’s fun. We do the raffle, I haven’t won, but it’s still worth it.”

Locally, the Lima Kiwanis Club is working to support that effort by aiding the Child Car Seat Program at the Lima Fire Department. The initiative began after club members learned about a family who couldn’t bring their newborn home from the hospital because they didn’t have a properly working car seat.

“We have a free raffle where Kewpee gives us hamburgers and pies,” said Michael Skinner, a volunteer with Lincoln Park Dances. “Other businesses provide us with things. The senior center is providing — one week — two tickets to La Comedia. So there’s a lot of neat things that we’ll be doing this summer there.”

The Allen Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its Annual Open House and Board of Supervisors Election from 4:00PM to 6:30PM on Tuesday, August 6th. This casual gathering will occur at the Allen SWCD office located at 1870 Slabtown Road in Lima.

Hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs will be served hot off the grill at this casual come-and-go event. Those who come will have the opportunity to meet district staff and ask questions about our programming.

The Children's Hometown Holiday is gearing up for another year of helping kids have a memorable holiday, but they are looking for some help. Organizers of the event say it takes around $35,000 each year to put it on. So they are holding their first-ever "Christmas in July" event next Wednesday at the Five Vine Winery just outside of Wapakoneta to help with their costs. The Children's Hometown Holiday is the first full weekend in December and is filled with events and activities at no cost to anyone who attends. But after 18 years, the costs and the number of kids continue to grow.
