“We will be doing an honor escort from the American Legion to the fairgrounds that day,” said Tamara Wilson, executive director of the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. “We will have police and fire escorts that will lead us into the fairgrounds for our Veterans Day at the Allen County Fair, and we would like our community to participate and give our veterans of Allen County a proper welcome home.”

“Something that people need to learn and understand is what it really means to celebrate this,” said Marc Wright, Juneteenth Committee Chair. “It's unity. It's education, you know, so and all about, you know, learning about what happened. How can we grow? How can we all be in this world together? And, you know, just love each other at the end of the day.”
“Music has always been a good part of my life. It helped keep me off the streets. It kept my brain safe,” Henderson said. “I feel like music can help kids—let them release, let them create. Music is a safe space.”
“Our Gen-Next Makers campers will get to experience not only in-classroom activities that expand their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Amber Martin, coordinator of Workforce and Small Business Development, “but they’ll also get behind-the-scenes looks at industries and manufacturers in our community.”
Registration for the annual program begins Tuesday, May 20, with extended office hours at the Lima Parks Department. Parents can sign their children up at the department’s office in the City Garage on Collett Street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 20 and 21.
“But what the opportunity is,” said Kody Graham, head swim coach at the Lima YMCA, “is we get a chance to teach young swimmers, young people in our community, how to be safe around water. We also get a chance to interact with their parents, to share the language we use and the process we go through — how to safely enter and exit a body of water, and how to protect themselves in challenging situations.”
The YMCA will host its annual Mother and Son Superhero Party on Saturday, May 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature dancing, games, and activities designed for dynamic duos looking to make lasting memories.
