LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima businessman is using his passion for music to give at-risk youth in the area a sense of purpose.
Jason Henderson, president and founder of the newly formed nonprofit Mentoring with Music, believes music can be a powerful outlet for young people facing difficult circumstances. Through his program, Henderson hopes to guide kids through their challenges using the same creative force that once helped him.
“Music has always been a good part of my life. It helped keep me off the streets. It kept my brain safe,” Henderson said. “I feel like music can help kids—let them release, let them create. Music is a safe space.”

Henderson owns Sune Records and said he was inspired to launch the program based on his own experiences growing up.
Registration is currently open for youth ages 10 to 19 who are interested in any part of the music business. The free, eight-week program kicks off with an orientation on June 2. Participants will take part in field trips and receive hands-on training in a studio setting.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Mentoring with Music is seeking donations to help sustain the program. More information is available on their Facebook page, and at mentoringwithmusic.org.
