July 8, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced nearly $900,000 in grants to support law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocacy groups in their shared goal of supporting sexual assault survivors and holding attackers accountable. The Ohio Department of Public Safety's Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) is awarding the funding as part of the new Ohio Sexual Assault Investigations Grant Program. Governor DeWine launched the program in February to help with the costs associated with sexual assault investigations, criminal prosecution, and victim advocacy.
The PEACE Club held their first-ever Take Back the Night event and invited other students and members of the community to start talking about the subject. The group heard from sexual assault survivor Tim Mousseau, who is an advocate for other survivors, he talked about sexual assault prevention and redefining masculinity. The event is designed to raise awareness of sexual assault by opening up conversations about the issue.
Sexual Assault is prevalent in our community and Crime Victim Services will be educating the public on just how prevalent. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Crime Victim Services wants to make sure anyone that has been sexually assaulted gets the assistance they need. They have seen a 20% increase in reported assaults to them serving 770 survivors of sexual violence with 143 of them being children. Their services are available at any time.
