“It’s really important that we watch for those scams,” said Jolene Highley, director of marketing and communications for the Area Agency on Aging 3. “Make sure your information is safe, and don’t give information over the phone or through the computer unless you’re 100 percent certain it’s legitimate.”
The secure, onsite shredding event will take place Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to noon in front of the agency’s office at 2423 Allentown Road, across from Walmart. The event offers residents a safe way to dispose of personal documents, check stubs, credit cards, and other paper materials that contain personal information.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office will be accepting for the Drug Take Back: over-the-counter medications, pharmaceuticals, vitamins, and supplements to be disposed of properly. They cannot accept needles and liquids. Please bring items in a sealed bag. Drug disposal is free and open to the public. In addition to the Drug Take Back Day, AAA3 will also be conducting secure shredding of documents. Shredding of items will be done by WiltonKeck. Shredding is free and open to anyone living in Hardin County.
The event was held outside the Putnam County Council on Aging and allowed members of the community to come and dispose of unwanted documents that contain private information. Organizers for the event say that it is very important to dispose of unwanted private documents by shredding them. Shredding allows the documents to be no longer usable by scammers or anyone who would target the community.
