Agency representatives emphasized the importance of offering this service to area seniors and using the opportunity to raise awareness about identity protection.

The event drew a steady turnout as residents arrived with personal documents to be safely shredded. Wilton-Keck provided a mobile shredding truck, where documents placed in bins were shredded on-site, ensuring immediate and secure disposal. Agency representatives emphasized the importance of offering this service to area seniors and using the opportunity to raise awareness about identity protection.

“It’s really important that we watch for those scams,” said Jolene Highley, director of marketing and communications for the Area Agency on Aging 3. “Make sure your information is safe, and don’t give information over the phone or through the computer unless you’re 100 percent certain it’s legitimate.”

In addition to the shredding service, participants could take advantage of the agency’s CarFit program, which evaluates key aspects of vehicle safety for older drivers. Technicians helped check seat adjustments, seat belt function, and other elements to ensure a proper and safe driving fit. The agency plans to continue offering similar services to support the safety and well-being of older adults in the region.
