VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) - A former Van Wert mail carrier has changed his plea on a federal charge for burning undelivered mail.

Kyle Carver pleaded guilty to one federal count of delay or destruction of mail.

In October, a Van Wert police officer was called to a home in the 900 block of George Street around 7:30 in the morning for an unattended fire in a back yard. The officer on the scene found mail being burned. Carver lived at the residence and was allegedly burning undelivered mail.

The case was handed over to the US Postal investigators, who presented it to a federal grand jury who filed charges in January against Carver. Carver is facing potential fines and possibly prison time for the crime. He will be sentenced in September.
