The rain isn’t so much the problem but the soil temperatures that may cause a hiccup in the process. They say it has been ranging in the mid-’40s and it needs to be on average around 55 degrees for several days for any seen to germinate. They say frost is still a concern with the fluctuating air temperatures we’ve been seeing. The wet fall also had some farmers behind in the tillage process.

Russia is the 11th largest economy in the world and with sanctions coming down from countries around the world the economic ripple will affect all of us. UNOH economics professor Brandon Miller says the reduction of commodities like natural gas and metals will likely drive up prices. And with Russia providing 10% of crude oil supply in the world, higher prices will start for us at the gas pump.

Senator Sherrod Brown says that his and Senator Rob Portman’s “Leveling the Playing Field 2.0” is close to becoming law. Brown says the bill will update and continue to strengthen trade laws to make sure they are effective tools to fight back against unfair trade practices, which in turn, will protect American workers.

Supply chain issues have impacted nearly every business in the country, and that is no different for the flower industry and local Ivy Hutch owner Ashley Etzkorn. With the increased prices of freight and limited supply of flowers, prices have increased for those bouquets. One of the biggest increases in prices is the rose, which normally goes up in price this time of year, but this year Etzkorn said that they are substantially higher than previous Valentine’s Days.
