May 31, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Governor Mike DeWine today announced the 2024 expanded Sales Tax Holiday will take place from 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 8. In conjunction with the Ohio General Assembly, Governor DeWine expanded the length of Ohio’s Sales Tax holiday to 10 days and will allow tax-free purchases made in-person or online on all eligible items of up to $500.
Items exempt from sales tax including clothing items that are marked $75 or less, school supplies priced at $20 or less, and instructional school material priced $20 or under. More details on included items can be found here. The tax holiday includes online purchases on qualifying items. Retailer coupons also apply which can boost even more savings.
This includes an item of clothing priced at seventy-five dollars or less, an item of school supplies priced at twenty dollars or less, and an item of school instructional material priced at twenty dollars or less. Items that are used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday. Those who have questions regarding the sales tax holiday are encouraged to check the department's sales tax holiday articles available on their website.
Will lifting 18 cents federal gasoline tax make a difference in the pocketbook of consumers? For example, if you have a 16-gallon tank it would save you 2 dollars and 88 cents. If you fill your tank each week during the 3-month gas tax holiday that is just about 35 dollars in savings. The temporary reduction in gas taxes will more than likely hurt an already struggling road and bridge infrastructure in the country.
The annual Sales Tax Holiday comes around every year just before summer break ends, giving parents a chance to save money on the things their kids will need for the school year.
If you're dreading checking off items on that back to school supplies list, you may be able to save some money over the weekend. Once again a sales tax holiday will be held throughout the state this weekend, starting on Friday, August 2nd.
It’s almost Back to School time and between this Friday and Sunday at midnight, consumers can save big bucks on Back to School items.
